Our planet is dying.

Did you know we’re poisoning our planet in all kinds of ways? Plastics get in the ocean and are shredded into microscopic pieces (all the plastic combined is equivalent to the size of the U.S.) that kills off shellfish and other creatures, which could ultimately destroy the entire food chain. There isn’t even a safe way to filter it from the water without killing oxygen-producing algae. And on top of that, fish in rivers are being mass medicated by human waste (meds. in urine). Mostly drugs used to treat depression, bipolar disorder, allergies, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Ever wonder why there are so many dead zones in the oceans that are rapidly growing and are completely inhospitable to life? Or why hundreds of whales would beach themselves all at once? I feel that all our pollution, on and in the land, in our water and even in the skies, has been getting out of control and destroying everything around us. The environment, our homes and even our lives. I don’t really feel that we are all doing our fair share in protecting this planet. From ourselves or from cosmic threats like atmospheric junk, comets, asteroids, global shifts, clouds of space dust or the possibility of aliens.
What can we do to save ourselves?

Does THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR PLANET mean anything to you? Well it should. I’m sure youare all very aware of the fact that our planet is dying and most of us are doing nothing about it. Well we suck. We, refering to humans, are the ones who caused this problem. A lot of people don’t care because they think that they won’t be around when all hell breaks lose, but no one can guarantee that. In fact, our planet has already been majorly affected by our stupidity.  SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP IT???? Well I’ll be happy to tell you.

  1. Change to Flouresecent Bulbs – If every house in the United States changed all of the light bulbs in their house, that would be equivalent to taking one million cars off the streets.
  2. Don’t rinse – Skip rinsing your plates before putting them into the dishwasher. In average you will save 15 gallons of water per load. Plus, you will save time.
  3. Hang outside to dry -Get a cloths line or rack to dry your cloths. Your cloths will last longer and you will save money
  4. Turn off computer at night – don’t just put them to sleep. You will save an average of 4 cents a day which ads up to $14.60 a year.
  5. Use both sides of paper -if you have a printer with a double sided print option use it. Whe taking notes, use both sides of the paper. Honestly, it doesn’t take much energy to flip a sheet of paper. Stop being lazy and you will save half of the amount of paper you would have normally used.
  6. Get rid of baths – Don’t take baths, take showers. You will in average save about half the amount of water that you would if you were taking a bath.  Everyone has to make sacrafices. I promise it won’t kill you. And another thing, Don’t take a shower every day. People in other countries already say americans are to obsessed with bathing and by skipping a day inbetween showers, you save a ton of water. And would it kill you to shorten the length of time it takes for you to get clean? 15 Minutes maximum people. Pretend its a race if you have to.
  7. Don’t get bottled water – Instead of bottled water get a reusable container to carry water. Also you can get a filter to make your home tap taste more like bottled water. It is definitely more cost efficient.
  8. Turn the water off when you brush – Your parents have said this before, now I say it. You will save 4 gallons of water doing this alone.
  9. Recycle glass –If you do not recycle this, it will take a million years to decompose.
  10. Turn off your lights- An easy one. Turn off your lights when you are not using them. The benefits are obvious.
  11. Use Matches instead of lighters – Lighters are usually considered disposable so they will most likely end up in land fills. You can use the cardboard matches which are much more eco-friendly because they are made of recycled material.
  12. buy rechargable batteries- Even though it will take a good investment to buy these you will find yourself gaining it back in no time.
  13. Pay your bills online- If every house in the US did this then we would save 18 million trees every year.
  14. Get a reusable bag- You can’t recycle plastic bags, instead get yourself a reusable bag so that you won’t have to worry about carrying your necessities.
  15. Plant a tree- It’s good for the air, can keep you cool, and can increase your property value.
  16. Walk or ride your bike when you can – If you have to go somewhere close consider riding your bike or walking there instead of your car. It’s better on the environment and healthier.
  17. reuse paint –Use leftover paint in your garage or basement to help spruce up a local park or school. Try creating a green mural with the leftovers and get the community involved.
  18. Get rid of junk mail – There are many services that can help you get rid of junk mail. That will lead to a lot less trees being cut down to take up room in your mailbox , plus it will save TONS of trash from going to landfills.

Honestly people, it won’t kill you to do some of this stuff. If everyone in the US did even half of this stuff, the planet would be a lot better off. So get off your lazy butts and walk somewhere instead of driving. Most people could use the exercise.  By trying out some of these “going green” tips, you can help to save your planet and the lives of the next generations to come. GO GREEN!!!!!!!!
